The Hearts Behind HeilaHeart

Founder

I am one of eleven children from Yarmouth, N.S. Canada. I'm a devoted wife, a mother of 3 beautiful (now adult) children, an owner of 2 incredibly special dogs and a very passionate Mental Health advocate. My love for Pets and the empathy I have for those suffering with mental health has led me to building my pet accessory business & brand which is designed to always make you smile, just as our pets do so naturally.

Sheila Atwood

Inspiration

Sheila, my sister, the inspiration behind the name HeilaHeart. In the process of building this business & brand specifically with Pets and Mental Health in mind, I reflected back on the dark days that followed after I lost my sister to cancer and the incredible pain that was felt by my family. Sheila represented everything you could think of in a person whose heart had so much to give. She was vibrant, empathetic and truly did depict unconditional love. She had a great love for her pets, and without hesitation, would give her time to anyone who needed a shoulder (fur or no fur), she was out to heal a heart wherever she could. My sister Sheila inspired the name of my business HeilaHeart which perfectly represents the vision and mission of spreading unconditional love and to give our pets a brand that pays tribute to the support they so naturally give.

Finley

Let's meet Finley! Finley is a rescue from a kill shelter in Buffalo NY where he was surrendered after being located in a home that did not give him the love and care he so desperately needed and wanted to give. Finely was within 24hrs of an unexpected rainbow bridge crossing when a rescue team rushed to the shelter giving Finley a 2nd chance at life. Finley was shipped off to Ontario Canada where he found his forever home with the Jones family. Little did Finley (or I) know, he would walk into our lives and become the most loving fur baby to represent a Pet accessory brand who's goal is to support Mental Health. His credentials in fact met the criteria to take on this role with confidence. By just being a pet, he has everything it takes to represent the HeilaHeart brand.

Freddy

Let's meet Freddy (aka Fredericton)! Freddy was adopted from a family who was just not ready or prepared for his fun loving, energetic, curious, confident spirit. Freddy was packed up and flown from Nova Scotia to his forever home in Ontario. Fred fit right in with the Jones family who also shared his personality! Freddy has been with us for 13 years and his personality is still shining strong! Freddy represents HeilaHeart perfectly, he shows an abundance of unconditional love and support but he is also a teacher...he teaches us that it is ok and very healthy to set boundaries, he reminds us of that every day! Freddy is a wise loving teacher, a teacher who will remind you that you are strong and independent and you don’t' need cuddles all the time...you are stronger than you think.
